The new 2010 CPR guidelines have been rolled out and Center For Healthcare Education's lead BLS instructor Cheryl Hansen, M.S., EMT has tested the new BLS/CPR/AED curriculum in a number of healthcare provider courses. When asked to comment Cheryl stated, "I really like it and the students grasp the new concepts easily." She also commented that"...the
new Prestan training manikins with immediate feedback lights help the students understand what it is really like to perform CPR." As mentioned earlier, Center is gearing up and partnering with the National Safety council with a lofty goal of training thousands of people in First Aid and Emergency First Responder over the next two years. From scouts to coaches to teachers to parents, in businesses and on construction sites – we want everyone to learn how to render First Aid when someone nearby is injured or seriously ill.

Center has recently acquired two new Philips Cardiac Monitors with 12-lead ECG capability, NIBP, SP02 and electrical therapy modalities of defibrillation, pacing and synchronized cardioversion. Cindy Tait, RN, MPH stated that "These new monitors help us to more specifically teach ACLS skills, especially with the new guidelines requiring students to interpret basic ischemia, injury and infarction using a 12-lead ECG." Coupled with the brand new Pinnacle Technologies ECG Rhythm generator that displays hundreds of real time basic and advanced dysrhythmias, ACLS students will obtain training that will help them to make better treatment decisions in the field and hospital setting.
For the 14th consecutive year Center for Healthcare Education sponsored the continuing education for the ECCU (Emergency Cardiac Care Update) conference held this year in San Diego, CA. Center staff were on site to provide continuing education for the PALS, ACLS and Kimberly Sorian - Cindy Tait BLS roll out sessions, and accredited almost 100 speakers providing 120 sessions with participants from all over the world.
Especially exciting this year was the gathering of fifty survivors of CPR to celebrate the 50th anniversary of CPR. See video

Mary Fran Hazinski, RN, MSN and her editorial team have done a marvelous job in developing the curriculum for PALS. The 2010 guidelines have relatively few changes to the algorithms. The PALS textbooks, videos and PALS instructor materials are expected to be released in September 2011. The staff and faculty of Center for Healthcare
Education look forward to expanding this valuable curriculum worldwide and are actively encouraging even not mandatory providers in EMS and clinical settings to become PALS certified.
Many hospitals and groups of nursing students have recently contacted Center for Basic ECG Interpretation Courses – call the office to set up a course. Many of the courses are open to other healthcare providers so check our calendar for a course near you.
Also, 12-lead Instructor training will be held for ACLS instructors at the Center on May 12th, 23rd and June 2nd.
NRP is returning to the Center!!! Many years ago Center for Healthcare Education was one of only three training centers in
the area with the designation from the American Academy of Pediatrics as a NRP Regional Training Center. Center For Healthcare Education established a training center in Puebla, Mexico in 2008 and is currently setting up another
center in St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands as well as discussing a partnership with International Medical Corps – ALL want NRP training! Robin Faris, MSN, CCNS, RNC, assistant professor of nursing at Biola University will train 9 master trainers this month at Center's conference center in Riverside, CA. Joining us from Mexico will be Dr. Alfonso Carvajal who will take the training (now in its 6th edition) back to Mexico to teach university medical students and physicians in the community. Check our course calendar for NRP
provider and renewal courses coming soon!
